About John F. McKeown

John was born in New York City and raised in suburban Long Island.  In 1977 he received a Bachelor of Arts degree with a major in Modern History and a minor in Political Science from Hofstra University..  After graduation he traveled across America and to Europe.  When he returned he moved into New York City and obtained a position on the staff of the Manhattan District Attorney's Office.  He was so impressed by the lawyers there he decided to become one himself.  He enrolled in New York Law School's evening division, graduated in 1984, and quickly passed the bar.

By that time he had a family.  The crime rate was horrendous.  Garrison Keillor on National Public Radio talked about the good life in fictitious Lake Wobegon.  John left the big city and found his Lake Wobegon in the very real city of Canandaigua.  He enjoys all that the Finger Lakes and Rochester has to offer.

He is a member of the Ontario and Monroe County Bar Association, New York Criminal and Civil Courts Bar Association, the U.S. Court of Appeals for Veterans' Claims Bar Association, The Federal Bar Association (Bankruptcy, Social Security & Veterans sections) The National Organization of Veterans' Advocates (NOVA), the National Organization of Social Security Claims Representatives (NOSSCR), The National Association of Consumer Bankruptcy Attorneys, The Better Business Bureau, the Canandaigua Chamber of Commerce, and the Canandaigua Yacht Club.

He is admitted to practice law in all of the Courts of the State of New York, the Bankruptcy courts of the Northern and Western Districts of New York, the United States District Courts of the Northern and Western Districts of New York, and the United States Court of Appeals for Veterans' Claims.
